Your Wild Patch - give us some details about your own Wild Patch!

Alongside artisan saffron production, our smallholding is home to over 150 species of flowering plants! We have some rare arable wildflowers including night-flowering catchfly, Venus’ looking-glass and (some years) the blue form of scarlet pimpernel. The grass-free pollen & nectar mix we plant on land being rested from saffron is full of insects. We have an area of zero-input grassland that has been out of arable production for nearly 20 years and is just starting to host bee orchids. Lastly, we manage our hedges using traditional techniques including hedge-laying and pollarding. As well as the plants, soprano pipistrelle bats and swifts use our roof, plus there are lots of hares and barn owls at our HQ too!
